How to apply for a short stay Schengen visa to Luxembourg?

Any visa questions are to be submitted by e-mail only. We take no visa questions on the phone.

A US citizen does not need a visa to visit the Schengen area countries as long as the stay does not extend beyond 90 days and the US passport is valid three months beyond the date of return in the USA.

For staying more than 90 days, an application for a residence permit will be necessary and depend upon the final purpose of the stay.

When travelling with children, please note that there is no visa fee for children under age 6.

How to apply for a short stay Schengen visa to Luxembourg?

Visa – Implementation of the Visa Information System (“VIS”) - 05/15/2014 - Application must be submitted in person.

The Visa Information System (VIS) is an IT system that allows Schengen States to exchange visa data. The main purpose of the VIS is to simplify the visa issuance process, to facilitate checks at external borders and to enhance security for everyone involved, including visa applicants.

As of May 15, 2014, each individual applying for a Schengen visa in the USA must appear in person, so that the necessary biometric data – ten fingerprints and a digital photo – can be collected.

Applicants who got a Schengen visa after May 15, 2014, and got their fingerprints taken by another Schengen Member State do not need to present themselves again in person for a subsequent period of 5 years.

Please note that holders of a Schengen visa are still subject to immigration control upon first entry into a Schengen country and are therefore not guaranteed automatic entry even if they hold a valid Schengen visa.

To apply you are invited to send us an e-mail summarizing  the purpose of your trip with the following documents in attachment in either PDF or JPEG format at least 15 days before the intended departure date:

  1. Copy of the two main pages of your national passport
  2. Copy of your valid US visa or valid US Lawful Permanent Resident Card

We will generally respond within two business days with information about the procedure to be followed.

When should you apply at one of the Consulates of Luxembourg in the USA?

  1. If you intend to visit only Luxembourg, you must apply at one of our Consulates in the USA.
  2. If you intend to visit only one other Schengen country, you must apply at the Embassy or Consulate of that particular country.
  3. If you intend to visit several Schengen countries, you must apply for a visa at one of our Consulates in the USA only if Luxembourg is your main destination.
  4. If you intend to visit several Schengen countries, but do not have a main destination, you should apply for a visa at one of our Consulates in the USA only if Luxembourg is your first point of entry.
  5. If you do not need a visa for Luxembourg or for the Schengen country which is your main destination or first point of entry, please note that you may require a visa for other Schengen countries. You should then apply at the Embassy or Consulate of the first Schengen country which does require you to have a visa.

The visa desk is open from Monday to Friday 10 am to 3.30 pm without interruption.

Appointments must however be confirmed prior to presenting yourself at the Embassy.

Please check under VISA  either you need a visa or not.
