On 18 June 2018, Ambassador Sylvie Lucas travelled to Boston and Cambridge, MA, for a working visit centered around the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. The Ambassador toured e.a. the Center for the Development of Therapeutics as well as the Cancer Program and met with the team of the Infectious Disease and Microbiome Program (IDMP) of which Ms. Fornelos Martins, a Luxembourg Postdoctoral Associate, is a member. The visit ended with a meeting with Eric Lander, the President and Founding Director of the Broad Institute who explained the vision of the Broad Institute which was launched in 2004 to improve human health by using genomics to advance understanding of the biology and treatment of human disease, and to help lay the groundwork for a new generation of therapies.

The Ambassador also paid a visit to the MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics (CTL) to discuss the MIT Global SCALE Network, an international alliance of leading research and education centers dedicated to supply chain and logistics excellence through innovation. The Luxembourg Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LCL) at the University of Luxembourg was established in 2015 in partnership with the MIT CTL and is part of the SCALE network. The LCL is establishing Luxembourg as the European standard for training, research and innovation in the logistics sector.

Ambassador Lucas visited moreover the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce to explore further possibilities for bilateral trade, economic and financial cooperation between Luxembourg and the Boston area.
