Ambassador Lucas welcomes the Luxembourg World Scout Jamboree Contingent to the Embassy

Published Monday August 05 2019

On August 5th, the Embassy hosted some 165 girl and boy scouts who were part of the Luxembourg Contingent at the 24th World Scout Jamboree, which had been held from July 22nd to August 2nd, 2019, in West Virginia.

A total of 45,000 guides and scouts – of which 228 scouts had come from the Grand Duchy – attended the reunion that takes place every four years. Guy Schubert and Pit Demuth led the Luxembourg Contingent Scouting in Luxembourg. The group was composed of members of the two main scout movements in Luxembourg, the Lëtzebuerger Guiden a Scouten (LGS) and the Fédération nationale des Eclaireurs et Eclaireuses du Luxembourg (FNEL).

This 24th World Scout Jamboree was unique for it was a team effort by Scouts Canada, Asociación de Scouts de México and Boy Scouts of America, which together welcomed their scouting friends from all over the world as a single family under the theme "Unlock a New World".

Ambassador Lucas – who had herself been a FNEL guide during her youth in Echternach – was honored by the Eechternoacher Quaichleken in the Contingent, with their signature yellow neckerchief. As the famous statement goes: "Once a scout, always a scout!"
