Luxembourg National Day Celebration at the Embassy

Published Friday June 22 2018

In her remarks at the occasion of the National Day celebration at the Luxembourg Embassy in Washington D.C., H.E. Sylvie Lucas saluted that ever since the adoption of the Marshall Plan, 70 years ago, the United States and Europe have been strong and close partners in shaping the modern world and in setting the standards that the international community abides by. “This is a mutually beneficial partnership that other countries can only dream of. It’s a partnership underpinned by a broad set of shared values, grounded in a common determination for freedom, peace and prosperity.”

Ambassador Lucas went on stressing that the importance of the transatlantic trade relationship, based on open, fair and rules-based trade, for all, is clear.

Recalling that Luxembourg and the United States celebrate this year the 115th anniversary of the official establishment of diplomatic relations, she noted that the common history, however, stretched back long before 1903, and stressed the important contribution of the Luxembourg American community in the United States in the people-to-people contacts across the Atlantic and the continued deepening of economic, human and cultural relations between the two nations.
