Luxembourg Technology at the White House

Published Monday October 28 2019

Ambassador Stronck recently met Artyom Yukhin, President and CEO of Artec3D, a Luxembourg-US company developing and selling 3D Scanners all over the world. The White House decided to use Artec3D’s Eva Scanner to create a presidential portrait of President Obama via 3D scanning, resulting in 3D-print-ready files for 3D printing a bust and life mask, as well as photo-realistic 3D models for digital viewing.

Barack Obama was the first head of state to have his bust 3D printed, breaking away from the White House’s 150-yr tradition of making plaster casts of incumbent presidents’ faces. In order to obtain a high-precision 3D model of his head, a Smithsonian-led team of 3D imaging specialists scanned Obama with Artec3D's Eva.
