Luxembourg participating in the 9th edition of the Kids Euro Festival

Published Thursday October 27 2016

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is participating in the 9th Kids Euro Festival in Washington, D.C., with the screening of the Luxembourgish co-production “The Golden Horse”.

The Kids Euro Festival is a two-week long festival of European arts and culture presenting free activities to D.C. metro area children and their families: performances, concerts, workshops, movies, storytelling, all brought to the D.C. area by the 28 European Union Member States.

“The Golden Horse” is a co-production between Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania and Luxembourg.

An ancient Latvian folk tale is the basis for this colourful animated feature in the tradition of Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. Antis is a 16 year old boy considered by his elder brother to be soft in his heart and slow in his mind. Despite the ridicule that he’s facing, Antis is deeply committed to bringing the beautiful Princess down from the Glass Mountain, where she is kept in a glass coffin by a vengeful sorceress. Director Reinis Kalnaellis brings a playful sense of humour to the characterizations and adds zippy contemporary elements, including a chorus of wisecracking crows.

“The Golden Horse” is a classic tale of good versus evil for children aged from 6 to 12. The movie will be screened at the American Film Institute in Silver Spring, MD, on 5 November, 2016, at 11 am. An additional screening will take place on Sunday, 6 November, 2016, at 3 pm at the Embassy of Luxembourg, 2200 Massachusetts Avenue N.W., Washington, D.C.
