International Holocaust Remembrance Day
As part of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the National Resistance Museum of Luxembourg and the city of Esch-sur-Alzette, will organize a ceremony to be held on Tuesday, 26 January 2021 at 1 p.m. (EST). Due to the current health situation, the ceremony will not be open to the public and can be followed online here.
Other notable events to mark the day will include:
- The European Commission and the European Jewish Congress will organize the event: Vice-President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas in conversation with a Holocaust Survivor
- United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC will hold a virtual event on Eisenhower’s Foresight: Protecting the Truth of the Holocaust
- Multiple events organized by the United Nations: “Facing the Aftermath: Recovery and Reconstitution after the Holocaust”.
About the International Holocaust Remembrance Day
January 27 is designated by the United Nations General Assembly as International Holocaust Remembrance Day (IHRD). Since 2005, the UN and its member states have held commemoration ceremonies to mark the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and to honor the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and millions of other victims of Nazism.
