A celebration of Luxembourg in the heart of the American Midwest

Every summer, the town of Belgium, Wisconsin becomes the setting for the largest celebration of Luxembourg heritage in the United States. From August 12 to 14, Ambassador Nicole Bintner-Bakshian joined the events organized by the Luxembourg American Cultural Society (LACS).

“Luxembourg Fest is a wonderful event and a unique opportunity to not only celebrate the roots of the many Americans of Luxembourgish descent but also to build bridges with the country of their origins. I am particularly happy to see so many Luxembourgers who have crossed the Atlantic this year to participate in the various activities”, said Ambassador Bintner-Bakshian.

When the village of Belgium, WI was founded in the 1840s, Luxembourgers were one of the main groups of immigrants to settle there. Today, hundreds of people attend the annual festivities, featuring live music, folk dances, historical exhibits and a parade. Other distinguished guests at the event included Minister of Finance Yuriko Backes, Pirate Party Member of Parliament Sven Clement, Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich and U.S. Ambassador to Luxembourg Thomas Barrett.
