Luxembourg National Day Reception celebrating 120 years of diplomatic relations with the United States
On a warm and somewhat rainy summer evening, the Embassy of Luxembourg hosted an intimate reception with members of the DMV diaspora and some close friends to celebrate the country’s National Day on June 23. The historic building on Massachusetts Avenue, which has been housing Luxembourg’s diplomatic mission to the US for over 80 years, was adorned in flags and vibrant decorations reflecting the national colors of Luxembourg.
This year’s event was special as we were celebrating 120 years of diplomatic relations between the United States and Luxembourg, a solid friendship and alliance based on common values and a rules-based international order.
Adding to the festive ambiance were traditional Luxembourg culinary delights, prepared by the Embassy’s chef, as well as beverages graciously provided by our sponsors at Ansay International. Everyone’s sweet cravings were satisfied with cookies and chocolates generously offered by Ferrero, whose worldwide headquarters are located in Luxembourg.
This year’s event was also special as we opened it up to the winners of the EU Open Day quiz, who were rewarded for their enthusiasm and knowledge about Luxembourg. Everyone in attendance was then challenged to participate in a National Day quiz, which sparked a wave of excitement and curiosity among guests as they delved into Luxembourg's history, culture and current events, as well as into historic and unusual facts about US-Luxembourg relations.
